Lurking under the SAND

This is one of the very few fractals i have seen where the grain adds to the fractal, great effect as its only on the edges and not on the whole fractal, so i love the contrast between the nice smooth shiny middle and the sandy edges which make it really look as if sand is moving as the unknown creature rises up Is this a pure fractal or did you add the grain?
